Putting fun back into adulthood

The world is a stressful place, for a variety of reasons. As adults, we get inundated with stressful happenings; bills, jobs, health problems, parental woes, stress and many other issues pop up all the time and it's all too easy to feel down or disillusioned about your lot in life. A lot of us try to go back to our "happy place" and generally that means when we were all children with very little stress in life, hanging out with dear friends and being generally carefree.

I firmly believe that's why many things that were formerly aimed squarely at children have now become more adult-orientated, for example; cartoons aimed at adults, adult colouring books, instead of comics there are graphic novels. Adult toy collecting is booming and a lot of video games are made purely for the mature gamer. There are even "bounce" type places for grown-ups so we even get soft play areas! I'm not criticising all this, in fact I actively participate in a lot of the activities above, no I believe it should be extended in fact...

I hosted a 90's party a while back with close friends where I provided a "lucky dip for grown ups" and it was seemingly enjoyed by all and this got me thinking...let's normalise adult sleepovers! It makes perfect sense! Imagine the joy of a slumber party as a child but with the added joy of being an adult and therefore desperately needing the distraction, fun and company of dear friends!

Very soon, my children, my wife and I are going on holiday with some of our closest friends and their wonderful children and it is going to be brilliant because we get to spend lots of time together just enjoying each others company, laughing and relaxing - this proves my point, sleepovers would be amazing! I hasten to add that I'm fully aware that adult sleepovers already exist, (I'm not trying to claim I came up with a unique idea), but what I'm saying is let's normalise them, grab some snacks, blankets, films and friends and just hang out overnight! Chat about anything and everything, laugh and do those silly little things that bring us all childish joy!

Life is too short to just focus on the boring, stressful stuff - don't forget to have fun! When the time comes, I'll be waiting in my pyjamas with the films, snacks and sleeping bags! 🥳
