This blog post has only come about because someone who was in my friends list on Facebook argued with me about a completely innocuous photo of myself chatting to Julian Clary during his show after I was taken up on stage.
You may well be wondering what they could possibly find to argue with me about that...apparently I'm woke, a snowflake and various other terms used to mock those of us who are accepting of others and on the left-side of the political spectrum. I was going to delete them but luckily they deleted me before I got the chance to which suits me really.
So, just in case I have any other bigots or people who wish to judge whether or not they want to follow me on social media or not, I thought I had best state here and now my honest beliefs. A couple of things before I do that though; firstly, I am not virtue signalling - just stating where I stand. I would like to think a lot of people think much the same as me so it's nothing new or a unique viewpoint. Secondly I realise there may be some who get a bit upset or disagree but that's ok, you're entitled to be and are of course welcome to tell me so via my inbox, (I am of course entitled to argue back). So, let's get straight to it...My seven main opinions are...
1) I am what's known as an "ally", I support all sexualities and genders, be you heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, trans, pansexual, non-binary or any others I may have forgotten here, I'm on your side.
2) I am left-wing, I always have been and always will be on the left-side of the political spectrum. Whilst I believe everyone should vote for whomever they like, I am anti-tory as they stand for everything I'm against in life.
3) I am against bigotry of all sorts, be it racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, etc. I will never understand why anybody would hate another for the colour of their skin, their gender, their age, their sexuality, etc, it makes zero sense to me.
4) I strongly believe in freedom of speech - but within reason. If you are hurling abuse at someone then that is not good and you deserve to be reprimanded for that because you are being threatening. Have whatever opinion you like but that doesn't outweigh my next point, which is...
5) I am a big believer in being kind to others. None of us know what is going on in someone elses life so it doesn't hurt to just be kind. Smile at someone or ask how they are, it could make a difference.
6) I am an atheist, I don't subscribe to any religion HOWEVER I think everyone shoukd be able to believe whatever they like without others arguing with them. If you follow Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism or any other religion - I support you. I may not agree with certain aspects of your faith but I support YOU.
7) The only people I truly hate are the types of people you would expect; people who hurt children, sex offenders, people who torture animals and other evil folks. In my opinion they aren't worthy to be called humans as they are closer to monsters.
So, to sum up, am I a leftie, woke "snowflake" who believes in equality, fairness, love and human kindness? Yes, I guess I am, it depends on your definition of course. I just think that as long as you aren't hurting others and just trying to get on with your life then you should be free to do so without others throwing vitriol and hatred at you. It's certainly not a controversial opinion at all and hopefully we as a species will learn to just accept that we are all different and it makes the world a more vibrant, magical place!
Oh and for the record; Julian Clary is an icon and one of my comedy heroes!
