I miss Halloween party planning!

 

The title of this blog is pretty much self-explanatory - I miss our annual Halloween parties! 

I know what you are thinking - "but it is still only August, why on earth are you thinking about Halloween already?". Well, the thing is that at this time of year as August draws to a close I used to start planning the Halloween party, (along with the kids birthday parties and start making my christmas cards as I make over 100 individual ones with different designs - it takes time). By this point I have the theme sorted, (for example our last ever one was a fairground spectacular, with hook a vampire duck from the swamp, coconut shy with shrunken heads, a ghost train and many other activities), and building of props has commenced. 

So now you may ask "why can't you just do one then?", the reason is quite simple - my children have outgrown them. Sadly teenagers aren't so keen for parties, (who knew!), which is completely understandable of course, I can remember being a moody teenager myself and it's a weird time of your life so you can't be dealing with party games, younger kids, etc. (We always had in excess of 12 other kids there, this spreading the spooky fun!). 

I have tried to come up with a ploy to be able to plan a party for them that they would deem non-childish, (but child-friendly enough to invite my friends children as they always appeared to enjoy the parties), but to no avail sadly. 

So, this leaves me a little "at a loss" at this time of year, (my favourite time of year I hasten to add, so it's not all doom and gloom). The weird thing is I still regularly come up with Halloween decoration ideas despite having zero reason to look - I guess it's nostalgia really. Looking back we had such a good time at those parties, it was good vibes all round. A few of the kids who attended made a point of telling me that our parties were, (and I quote), "the best Halloweens ever", which is high praise indeed, I was very flattered! 

I turn 40 this year so you'd think that would be a good excuse for a party but you'd be wrong, I have yet to celebrate my birthday fully and I don't intend to start now that I'm older and have even less to offer the world! 😂

I will just plod on with the Christmas cards and reminisce over past glories...although there is the idea of an outdoor halloween cartoon cinema and pumpkin carving extravaganza!...

Time for honesty...

  I'm not sure if I have any followers of this blog, or indeed if I have anyone following anything I do online. This isn't a bitter statement, I have definitely wound down on what I post online; there was a time I was posting things daily, be it a whiteboard quote, a national day post or a silly video of me singing, I was active online. One of the hardest weeks of my life...

  Here's a screenshot of an old home video of my lovely brother Mark when I lived with him, my wonderful sister-in-law Sharon and their fantastic children 20+ years ago. In the video he was looking at me exasperated as I was twanging a balloon perilously close to some breakable items in his home...I wasn't a child, I was 21 so his facial expression was justified! I remember those years very fondly, I had left home and was living with them all in what can only be described as a house of fun, excitement and above all else love. The broken mug situation

  This mug got broken today by myself due to my clumsiness and I was devastated, genuinely gutted at the time. You are probably wondering why a 42 year old man with a vast selection of mugs would be even remotely upset by a mug smashing, well, let me attempt to articulate it... I am sentimental, (to the degree you could say I put the mental into sentimental), if you have ever written me a note, card, letter or given me a gift of any size or shape, the chances are I still have it, lovingly stored away in either a cupboard, cabinet or in my scrapbook. I can easily get attached to things as they are like little memory time capsules to me. I am always touched when someone cares enough to show me they like me, either verbally or physically so why this mug in particular?  Whilst it's true I am a huge Muppets fan, Kermit especially, it's not that.
