International friendship day




 Let's hear it for friends! 

30th of July, (yesterday as I'm typing this), was international friendship day, hence this blog post...

For me personally, friends are very important, especially after the last year and a bit; I, like most people, had a rough time with it, (and I was lucky enough to keep working throughout, so my thoughts go out to those hit with financial woes due to the pandemic on top of everything else), I'm one of those who stick to social distancing rigidly, I didn't go on holiday or day trips, (I'm still not currently truth be told). I didn't see anyone other than my friends at work so, outside of work it has been fairly isolated. 


Yes, I'm truly lucky to have Rox and the boys, but I'm also blessed to have some amazing friends who have been there for me throughout in various ways, be it a friendly chat, dropping off essentials, checking in on us all and even a few gifts, (unnecessary but greatly appreciated), just because they are naturally lovely.


I've always said that my friends aren't just my friends, they are my family. In fact, in certain cases they are more family-like than certain family members, (that's not to say I don't have any family that I am close to, I do, and hopefully they know who they are). Some friends I've only known a short time, some for a very long time. Some I met through school, some I met online, some through work, some through mutual friends and some just randomly, but they are all lovely folks who mean a lot to me! It's nice to say that I have found my 'pack' and you are all family to me, (I hope you all know who you are as mentioning friends is tricky in case I accidentally miss someone out!). 


Thank you to each and every one of you fantastic people, your friendship is greatly  appreciated and I know I'm not the greatest friend in the world as I'm constantly broke, annoying and laden with a healthy dose of depressive mood swings every once in a while. 


I look forward to finally seeing you all in person one day when I get the chance to.

Time for honesty...

  I'm not sure if I have any followers of this blog, or indeed if I have anyone following anything I do online. This isn't a bitter statement, I have definitely wound down on what I post online; there was a time I was posting things daily, be it a whiteboard quote, a national day post or a silly video of me singing, I was active online. One of the hardest weeks of my life...

  Here's a screenshot of an old home video of my lovely brother Mark when I lived with him, my wonderful sister-in-law Sharon and their fantastic children 20+ years ago. In the video he was looking at me exasperated as I was twanging a balloon perilously close to some breakable items in his home...I wasn't a child, I was 21 so his facial expression was justified! I remember those years very fondly, I had left home and was living with them all in what can only be described as a house of fun, excitement and above all else love. The broken mug situation

  This mug got broken today by myself due to my clumsiness and I was devastated, genuinely gutted at the time. You are probably wondering why a 42 year old man with a vast selection of mugs would be even remotely upset by a mug smashing, well, let me attempt to articulate it... I am sentimental, (to the degree you could say I put the mental into sentimental), if you have ever written me a note, card, letter or given me a gift of any size or shape, the chances are I still have it, lovingly stored away in either a cupboard, cabinet or in my scrapbook. I can easily get attached to things as they are like little memory time capsules to me. I am always touched when someone cares enough to show me they like me, either verbally or physically so why this mug in particular?  Whilst it's true I am a huge Muppets fan, Kermit especially, it's not that.
